Electricity Generation

Photo Voltaic systems. Photo voltaic systems (or PV) are a system that converts solar radiation into electricity. We are used to seeing this technology in solar calculators, parking meters and watches etc but now it is possible to grid connect a solar system to apply energy within the average house. Recent regulations mean that it will soon be possible to connect solar PV systems to the grid opening up a large market potential in the Irish renewable energy industry.

CHP, refers to the production of heating on the electricity from the one boiler. Typically the boiler will have a combustion engine similar that of any engine and this engine creates electricity. A by product of this is heat used in the cooling of the engine, this heat is used to provide the space heating within the building. This is also known as co-generation,

Micro CHP. Micro CHP is the generation of smaller amounts of electricity from what would otherwise be a conventional gas boiler. The gas boiler produces in the region of 20/25 KW of heat on heating mode but also produces circa 1KW of electricity which can be used to power light bulbs fridges, washing machines TV’s etc.
