Mixed Developments

Mixed developments consist normally of a shell and core apartment type building with retail units at ground level. These developments often contain crèches and community centres as well.

Origen Energy Ltd can provide a complete design service for these types of developments together with energy consumption analysis, commercial BER ratings. In order to meet the requirements of part L of the building regulations, the developer needs to show that renewable energy constitutes 10KW hours per square metre per year within the development. District heating is an ideal way to achieve this by providing a central energy centre with Bio Mass heating and an energy transmission network linked to all apartments or houses and the commercial units on the development.

Each individual unit both commercial and residential can be metered and monitored and billed according to the energy they use. There are several advantages to providing this form of centralised heat, namely the elimination of gas pipe lines and gas risers within the individual apartment blocks, the elimination of fluing arrangements from each apartment and the consequent difficulty with routing to the outside walls.
